10 meetings starting Tuesday 19th January 2010 Cost £35 |

|
United Free Church (Brisbane Road) 2 – 4 pm |

This will be more of a workshop than a course. At times participants will be in small groups doing different things such as printing, scanning old 3mmm slides, editing etc... The allocation of time between topics will depend on the interests of those attending. Some time is likely to be spent on the basics of taking pictures with a digital camera, viewing them and then copying them to a computer for editing, printing and storage. This should be a useful review period for the more experienced users who are likely to be asked by beginners for assistance in understanding and using the multitude of settings on a modern camera. |
|||
| Participants need to have access to a modern computer for use between meetings, as practise in the use of techniques is essential: most find this activity interesting but it is often time consuming. Some familiarity with the use of a computer is necessary but no special expertise is required – an interest in photography is more important than a long experience with computers. Demonstrations and exercises will cover the basic computer operations involved in transferring pictures from camera to computer and the subsequent processing of the pictures prior to presentation. | |||
| Beginners are advised to refrain from
buying photo editing software before the course. Picasa 3 from
Google is proving to be both a powerful editor and remarkably easy
to use (and free!). This combination is likely to satisfy the photo
editing and management needs of most OIR users, especially when
users also have a Googlemail address when sending text and pictures
by email. |
|||
|
The OIR laptops are dual-booted so that users can select XP instead
of Vista. Participants also have the use of a dedicated photo
quality printer (Epson PM240) for 100 * 150mm prints, an easy to use
dedicated slide scanner, memory card
readers, tripod, video camera etc... Other equipment includes a
multimedia projector. |
